About Me

Professional Experience

I’m Megan Parris, a Channel and Performance Specialist at Idea Ranch, where I work at the intersection of strategy, messaging, and execution. Before that, I served as Marketing and Research Manager for the Broken Arrow Economic Development Corporation and the Broken Arrow Chamber of Commerce. Earlier in my career, I was the Director of Strategy for a startup tech company, where I helped shape brand direction and growth from the ground up.

Education

I’ve loved English for as long as I can remember. I grew up writing songs, stories, poems, and letters, always drawn to language and how it works. I earned my degree in Professional Writing with a minor in Linguistics after realizing that, while nursing and entomology bioforensics fascinated me, my true interests lived elsewhere. I was far more at home writing rhetorical analyses and autoethnographies than starting IVs or examining DNA.

Background and Focus

Editing is where my passion really lives. While at Oklahoma State University, I worked in the writing center tutoring undergraduate and graduate students across disciplines. I enjoy writing, but I love reading and strengthening other people’s work even more. Over the years, I’ve freelance edited for publishing companies, working on everything from full manuscripts to poetry and short-form pieces.

A Little More About Me

Outside of work, I’m an avid animal lover with a habit of rescuing pets who need a second chance. I adopted my cat, George, from the Stillwater pound during my senior year of college after he had been abused and improperly declawed. With time and care, he’s become a very happy, very lazy cat. I also rescued Ringo, a German Shepherd and Great Pyrenees mix who was malnourished and near death, and June, a Great Dane and Belgian Malinois mix who had been abandoned at a work site.

That same patience and care shows up in my work. I believe good editing is about respect for the writer, the voice, and the story being told.
